Valencia takes control 17-7 over Villa Park

Placentia - Valencia took advantage of two Villa Park turnovers and a miscue on special teams in its 17-7 victory on Friday night at Valencia High. After Jacob Alvarado´s 17-yard TD run put the Spartans (0-1) up 7-0 in the first quarter, the Tigers defense took control.

Jesse Sandoval´s punt was mishandled by Parker Roberts in the second quarter, and the Spartans took over at their 4-yard line. Two plays later, Tyler Watkins threw the first of his two interceptions, this one to Mike Newman, who returned it to the 8-yard line.

Omar Perez bulled through the middle on second down from 2 yards out to tie the score, 7-7. Karsen Garcia´s pick before the half led to a Sandoval 22-yard field goal to put Valencia (1-0) ahead, 10-7. The Tigers put the game out of reach on their first possession of the second half. Isaac Dominguez´s 89-yard touchdown run capped an 81-yard drive.
