BREA Valencia coach Mike Marrujo opened his 30th year coaching with 13-0 victory against Brea Olinda in a nonleague opener for both teams at Brea Olinda High Friday night. With 8:42 left in the opening quarter, Valencia scored first on quarterback Robert Mata´s 7-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Greg Hammond. An apparent touchdown pass for Valencia in the second quarter was called back because of a holding penalty.
The only other score in the game came at the end of the third quarter when Valencia´s Gabriel Perez scored on a fumble by Brea. Perez also carried the load for Valencia´s offense, with 62 yards on 18 carries. Mata completed 9 of 17 passes for 90 yards with a touchdown. Mata´s No. 1 target on the night was Travis Hawley who caught three passes for 52 yards.
For Brea Olinda, running back Josh Vizcaya carried the ball for 40 yards on 12 carries while quarterback Nick Ceja complete 3 of 11 passes for 58 yards. Brea Olinda running back Nicky Feamster carried the ball for 21 yards on four carries and caught a 33 pass from Ceja.
