PLACENTIA Valencia and El Dorado squared off in the 39th "Battle for the Bell" game in the two schools´ storied history Friday night. Valencia took home the bell behind the power running of Omar Perez and the accuracy of quarterback Robert Mata for a 23-10 victory.
Valencia now holds the all time edge over El Dorado, 20-19. El Dorado jumped to an early lead thanks to a 56-yard run by Aleks Tayek that was set up a 33-yard field goal by Ian Miller. Valencia responded in the second quarter behind the stellar play of Mata, who went 10-for-10 passing for 102 yards. Perez carried the ball 11 times for 46 yards and a TD.
The Tigers picked up where they left off in the beginning of the third quarter. Mata hit Mac Langenwalter for a 26-yard pass that set up a 26-yard field goal by Caleb Carreno.
