Laguna Hills stays unbeaten 21-7

By JOHN SHERRARD
SPECIAL TO THE REGISTER

LAGUNA HILLS Laguna Hills senior quarterback Tim Belman threw two touchdown passes to lead the Golden Hawks to a 21-7 CIF-Southern Section Southwest Division firstround victory over visiting Valencia on Friday night. "It feels wonderful, and we just got to keep this going," Belman said.Laguna Hills won its 10th consecutive game to remain undefeated and will travel to Sonora (9-2) for a second-round game next Friday.

The Hawks won their sixth consecutive Sea View League title and Coach Bruce Ingalls reflected on the string of championships and advancing to the second round. "We´ve been fortunate, and we´ve had a good run and it´s gone pretty well for us," Ingalls said. "You know you´ve had a great season when you´re practicing Thanksgiving week."

Laguna Hills fumbled the ball on its third play from scrimmage, but that was the only blemish for the Sea View League champions. After junior defensive back Joseph Thrasher recovered a muffed punt return by Valencia (5-6) at midfield midway through the first quarter, Belman (11 for 14, 195 yards) connected with senior wide receiver Ryan Ur (five catches for 98 yards) on the first play for a 48-yard touchdown to give the Hawks a 7-0 lead.

Two big-play Hawks receivers were Connor Landberg (two catches for 45 yards, one touchdown) and Jared Murray (one catch for 27 yards). Laguna Hills junior running back Alex Salera carried the ball 15 times for 55 yards and a touchdown. GoTo [ Valencia - Laguna Hills ] Photo Gallery
