PLACENTIA There is a lot of optimism surrounding this year´s Brea Olinda team. The Wildcats returned 16 starters and were picked to finish third in the Century League, one year after they avoided a lastplace finish with a .500 record in the league.
Brea Olinda opened the 2011 season in fine fashion with a 45-13 road victory over Valencia on Thursday night in the opener for both. "Great to see the kids come out and execute from the get go," Brea Olinda coach Robb Perrance said. "They came out fired up. The kids played well, and they did what we asked them to do." Brea Olinda opened the scoring on its first possession as Josh Vizcaya went 59 yards on the fourth play for the score. Vizcaya rushed for 103 yards on 15 carries with two TDs.
After a safety, the Wildcats opened up a 16-0 lead on a 62-yard touchdown run by Nick Feamster with 3:14 left in the first quarter. Brea Olinda took a 38-0 lead into halftime. "We´ve set some goals, and a lot of these kids have already seen some time," Perrance said. "This is a good bunch to have on the field with us."
Valencia scored its first points with 4:28 left in the third on a 1-yard TD by Omar Padilla. The score capped an impressive 15-play, 71-yard drive for the Tigers. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock after Brea Olinda´s lead increased to 45-7 early in the fourth quarter.
